Type Locality and Naming

Along the Tashakyrsky level, middle course of the Amu Darya River, Turkmenistan. A.I.Aynemer, V.V. Zhitinova, N.M.Raduyevich et al., 1967 (41, p. 100-101). Typical sections in the middle course of the Amu Darya River.

Synonym: Tashakyrskaya Suite, Ташакырская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Sands and sandstones with lenses of coarse clastic rocks and layers of whitish marls, calcareous clays, and siltstone (aleurolites). Thickness up to 18 m.

Lower contact

Lies with erosion on the Sadyvar Fm and older deposits up to the Upper Cretaceous inclusive

overlain by younger Quaternary deposits

Southwestern Kyzylkum and Northeastern Karakum, Zirabulak-Ziaetdin district.

A.A. attributes the Tashakyr Fm. to the Upper Pliocene. A.A. attributes the Tashakyr Fm. to the Upper Pliocene. Along the position on the lacustrine-marine Apshearon deposits of the Sadayvar Fm conditionally attributed to the Eopleistocene (346,444).
